Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is better to study alone than to study with a group of students.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

I strongly agree that studying alone is more effective than studying in a group. While group learning may offer certain advantages, individual study allows better focus, self-paced learning, and deeper understanding.

First, studying alone reduces distractions. In group settings, students often get off-topic or spend time chatting. Even with good intentions, it’s hard to maintain full concentration. In contrast, individual study allows complete control of the environment. For instance, when preparing for the TOEFL, I reserved a quiet room in the library every evening. Without any interruptions, I finished each section efficiently and retained more information.

Second, solo study supports personalized learning. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Some may grasp concepts quickly, while others need more time. In a group, it’s difficult to adjust the pace to suit each person. I remember joining a biology study group where we rushed through diagrams I found difficult. Later, I had to re-study them alone to fully understand. When I study independently, I can spend extra time on areas that challenge me.

Third, studying alone improves critical thinking. In group sessions, students often rely on others for answers. While collaboration is helpful, it sometimes limits independent analysis. Working alone forces me to think deeply, solve problems myself, and build stronger reasoning skills. This independence is especially important in university-level courses and professional environments.

In conclusion, although group study can be useful for sharing ideas, I believe studying alone is more effective overall. It provides better focus, flexibility, and deeper learning. For students who value efficiency and self-growth, individual study is the better choice.
