These words are coming from a current high school teacher as of May, 2022.

I have taught for approximately 7 years and things are going downhill quickly. The students of today are far different from the students of yesteryear. About 5 years ago, the students were respectful and wanted to do the work so they could thrive in life. Nowadays, students are rude, disrespectful to the teachers and their peers, and have a general sense of pride that is unjustified. They believe they are invincible and that things will be handed to them on a silver platter, for the most part. There are a select few that are fantastic and make work an absolute pleasure. However, that does not detract from the fact that teachers are bullied on a daily basis by the students and their parents and we get no reprieve from our administration.

If you know a teacher, please tell them how much you appreciate them. If you are a current student, go easy on your teachers and just do the work. It isn't that hard to keep your grades up when you do the work. If you have questions, be sure to ask them rather than keep silent and just take an F on an assignment or test.

I refuse to give up on my students, and therefore my community, and will do my absolute best to teach them as much as I can to help them in their future. I love watching students understand new material and I only want a good life for each and every one of them. Hopefully, my feelings are not lost on them and they truly believe I am here for them.
