Wherever there is talk of donating land to the poor, the memory of Acharya Vinoba Bhave comes alive. It was not possible for anyone other than Vinobaji to persuade the rich people and landlords to give some of their land to the poor without coercion or without making laws. He did a wonderful job by running this difficult task across the country. Vinobaji was born in the year 1895 in a Brahmin family of Maharashtra. His father was Shri Narahari Rao and mother was Smt. Rukyini Devi. Vinobaji was known as Vinya in his childhood.
Vinobaji was a child of great intellect since childhood. After elementary education, he passed the matriculation examination from Baroda in 1913. After this he also took intermediate education, but he burnt all these certificates and went to Kashi and took Sanskrit education. Vinobaji was impressed by Gandhijis personality and met him and on his behest started running an old-age home in Sabarmati. During this time he got more time to study and also came in contact with many leaders.
He participated in many movements of Gandhiji, for which he also had to go to jail. After the independence of the country, he toured the whole of India for the welfare of Harijans and quelling the riots. Under the Bhoodan movement, with the support of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, more than twenty two crore acres of land was received as donation only in Bihar and a total of seventeen lakh hectares of land was received across the country. He distributed all this among the destitute and poor people. Finally  on 15 November 1982, he left this world forever. Vinobaji was a big leader of the country but he never coveted any government position or money. He wanted to bring true socialism and Ram Rajya in the country. This country needed him more.
