It is believed that on the full moon day of Ashwin Shukla Paksha, there is nectar rain from the moon. On this day the moon appears light blue in the sky. It is said that on this day, making kheer at night, keeping it under the open sky and consuming it in the morning cures all diseases  It is believed that Mata Lakshmi was born on the day of Sharad Purnima. Therefore, in many parts of the country, Lakshmi Puja is performed on Sharad Purnima. Kojagauri Lokkhi Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped on Sharad Purnima.
After the praise of Maa Durga in Navratri, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped in the evening on Sharad Purnima to wish for financial strength for the next year. The artisans who make the idol of Maa Durga make the idol of Lakshmi. After immersion of the old Lakshmi idol, the new idol is preserved till the next year. Coconut is also offered to Goddess Lakshmi along with five types of fruits and vegetables. Special poojas are also held in temples.
Apart from the idol of Laxmiji in the worship Kalash, Dhoop, Durva, Lotus flower Hartaki Kauri Aari small succulent Paddy, Vermilion and Coconut laddus are prominent. As far as the worship method is concerned, Rangoli and owl sound have a special place in it. When Lord Krishna was born in Dwapar Yuga, then Mother Lakshmi incarnated as Radha. The beginning of the wonderful Rasleela of Lord Shri Krishna and Radha is also considered on the day of Sharad Purnima. Sharad Purnima has special significance for Shaivite devotees. It is believed that Kumar Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, was also born on the day of Sharad Purnima. For this reason it is also called Kumar Purnima.
In West Bengal and Orissa, on this day, virgin girls take a bath in the morning and worship the sun and the moon. It is believed that by this she gets a worthy husband. The practice which has been going on since time immemorial will be maintained again today. In the desire of health and immortality, once again Kheer etc. will be kept in the moonlight of Sharad-moon and it will be consumed as Prasad.
