As you may have seen, our sales for the year are as high as any in the history of our business, and we see no reason why they should be any less this year. This is due in our view to the fact of our having given value for money. Those who deal with us know they will receive service, and this may have its effect on our sales. This business is, as you know, a cash business. We both buy and sell for cash, and I think our thanks are due to this fact, too for some of the high items. It is a fact which is of special value in such times as these. I think I can say no similar business can show such high sales. The lady, who is a customer of this house, says you are making an error in your charges on your March invoice. She says she has had similar items of yours many times, and the charge was less. Can you look fully into this and make the change if she is right? On the face of it, it seems as if she is right, and if this is the case I hope you will do what you can to see what is the cause of the error. This house has no wish to put out an invoice which is wrong in any of its items. If the customer is right and your charges in this case are wrong, you should issue a new invoice tonight. I am sorry I have had to ask you to bear with me for so long today, but it seems right for me to speak for the changes in some items. I shall give you fully our reasons for making some of the changes which came into force six months ago. To do this I have had to deal at some length with the affairs of several big business firms which do business side by side with us. As you will notice, the business carried on by such a firm has its effect on a retail business such as ours. We have to watch the affairs of these firms daily and to judge what is likely to lie ahead of us.
