The concept of home is myriad. For most people a physical place comes to mind, whether it be where they spent their childhood, where mom and dad are, or where they have created their own family or abode (because not all family is human!).

Home often times holds memories, good and bad alike. Home is (or should be) filled with love and laughter, peace and wisdom, a sanctuary from the outside world. Children should feel safe and happy, as should the parents and other adults. Home is the smell of baking confections around the holidays, dinners with family gathered together, movie and game nights, bedtime stories and goodnight hugs and kisses, playful pets, and riding your first bike. Home is the smell of moms favorite candle and her cooking, and don't forget the cleaners on cleaning day! So many things that tie us to our "home".

Home is where the heart is. And your heart can be in more than one place. For people who move a lot (hello military!), home isn't always a solid physical place. Again, home is where the heart is.

It's an odd transition, realizing this as I grow older. A military kid myself, I never stayed in one place more than a couple years. Now having left my physical home, a few years later I have found another. Everything has always felt temporary, and now I have found something permanent. Home is indeed where the heart is, because my home is with my love.

I never knew that I didn't need a permanent home (being in the middle of moving is stressful!), at least not until this time around. It was always "where's the next place I'll call home?". Now that has changed. Now home will be where ever my immediate family is. And now "going home" means that I go to the man I will spend my life with.

Home isn't always physical, home is where the heart is.
