Hey folks,
My name is Roar, I'm born with a handicap named "arthrogryposis multiplex congenita".
I got a mild version, but due to it I've struggled to learn to type with all my fingers since they're kind of "crooked" especially my right hand (I'm using only my Index finger on the right hand, I may use 1 more at random)
I'm basically only using 5 fingers in total, 6 at times if my little finger (No, not the character in GoT) feel like hitting a key.
Well to the point, do anyone have experience as handicapped or any idea how I could improve my typing speed or general tips as non-handicapped - how did you learn to use the "less active fingers"?
Since I'm kind of stuck in a certain way to type, and either need to re-learn it from scratch or simply practice tons while remembering to use yet another finger.
And of course what would be the optimal speed one can reach using 6 fingers?
What can I aim for, is there any calculations to somehow show an estimated number compared to normal typers.
(Say if you're typing at 100 wpm with 10 fingers, I'm expected to reach 60 wpm with 6 - well it's obviously wrong but just as an example).
This is my profile here at 10fastfingers if you're interested:

If you can only use the pinky finger on your right hand, my suggestion for you is to use it to hit the I, K and M keys and all keys to the right of them and use your left hand to hit all of the other keys on the other side of the keyboard.

You could conduct a Google search for computer keyboards or software that address your situation.

Hey Toddhicks209, thanks for replys i'll look into that link.
Since I posted this I've tried a few times re-learing or adding more finger, what I've found out is the most effective way for me to learn to type with more fingers are to basically write "slow" while actually looking at the keyboard and learning what keys I could use another finger instead of the usual to save time so to say.
Anyway after some tried and tests I'm still struggling to get rid of my fingers wanting to touch a certain key when not looking at the keyboard, and it ends up in a mess - wont give up yet tho, but I've figured out a maximum of 8 fingers are usable if I recode my brain to actually use them on certain keys.

Cheers!

Try to use as many fingers as possible. Of course more fingers will mean more potential at the end, but you can achieve high speeds using only two fingers, but everything is about learning the keyboard and practice a lot. I used to type 145 wpm with only two fingers, so it's possible to be really fast without having to use all your fingers.
Use your own method, the one most comfortable for you, and practice the same method. I recently started to type with all my fingers to explode my potential, currently 138 wpm (not as fast as with my two fingers), but in comparison, I've typed with my index fingers for 11 years, and I've been typing with 9 fingers since a month and a half ago.
